About Julie Tillman's Art

    Julie Tillman. Artist. Painter.

julie tillman's art explores the dichotomies of youth and age, past and present. Memory, always unsure and reinterpreted, is presented to the viewer for their own meaning and connection. The goal: to create works of art that invoke personal memories, thoughts, and most of all the feelings of their past, present and future that hold the most powerful human emotions in the eye of its viewer.

julie enjoys playing with the juxtaposition of old and new... Not just aesthetically (combining media and materials both recycled, re-purposed, as well as new), but also as a representation of us as humans and the lives we lead. Her work is about history, as well as this very moment. It's about memories of what was, and hopes for what can be. Sometimes her work is filled with a feeling of melancholy and introspection. Sometimes it's whimsical and light. Sometimes it's sexual, spiritual, or even political.

No matter what a certain piece may offer visually, julie believes that all art, whomever its maker, is (at least in some small way) a self-portrait of its author. A representation of how that artist sees and reinterprets the world around them. Her work is no different.
artist julie tillmanIn her own words: "my goal is to make art that makes people smile, think, react, and feel. i am an optimist by nature. i love my family and friends, art, books, and music; and i try to surround myself with all of them as much as humanly possible."
